Wintering continues here at the studio and today I am being called to just paint something abstract. There is no end result in mind. There are days when I’m feeling lost and tired and don’t know what to do, but I know that I need to paint as part of my practice.
In today’s Intuitive Painting Studio Session (find the full tutorial in my IG Subscription), I’m playing with dripping paint and making marks and shapes. I have no expectations for the painting. It may be a big blot at the end and that is okay.
On the practical side of things, I am practicing. I am mixing colors together, and practicing what happens when I drip water in different ways. What happens when I remove paint with a lot of water? What happens when I experiment with colors and layering? What are the results as they transition in the painting from the moment I let the paintbrush touch the paper until it dries? What does that life cycle look like?
It is a time for playing and experimentation. Letting go of expectations like creating and sharing on Instagram, and making something perfect. It is a time to connect with myself on a deeper level and play.
